Ancient Egypt Inpsired Gown

There is a ‘Period Piece’ Project in Draping 2. I chose to take inspiration from the fine pleated linens and beaded net dresses associated with Ancient Egypt. I of course did not use linen, but instead silk chiffon.

The above pictures were my reference photos for designing the gown ((Left) is the beaded net dress and the (right) is Queen Nefetari wearing a sheer pleated linen gown).

The technical sketches would require a lot of details for this dress. There are many layers that all have different pattern pieces and require thoughtful construction.

In preparation to make this gown, I started by making bead samples to map out the size of the diamonds and the hand sewing technique that I would use. The above was a first sample, and the design moved quickly past this technique. I am glad I did it because it helps me to understand the end result visually before I get there.
