Bathingsuit and Coverup
The bathing suit and coverup project was inspired by the 1930s for the 90th annual anniversary of the School of Fashion Design. The cut of the shorts on the bathing suit along with the flowy nature of the hem to the coverup is meant to emulate 30s style.
The above photos are sketches showing the bathing suit alone and with the coverup on.
I originally wanted to make the coverup out of organza and it was not looking how I imagined. I changed to silk chiffon and was much happier with the last mockup.
Instead of doing french seams I did a satin stitch over a 1/8” seam allowance on all vertical seams and the armholes. The coverup has a narrow hem sewn with the overlock machine which incases a polyester filament thread to create undulating shapes.
