Shorten Back of Jacket

On jackets there is often a horizontal ripple across the back shoulder at the base of the neck (on the client). This is resolved by shortening the back. In this case pictured above, 1/4” needs to be absorbed into the collar. I marked the measurement with chalk, then a basting thread. I also chalked in the original neckline.

I marked the new neckline and staystitched 1/8” above the stitching line to secure the tape in place and reduce stretching before cutting the excess. Then I pad basted the collar to the neckline at the new line.

Shown above is the collar being hand stitched to the neckline using a whip stitch. As I went across I made sure to stitch directly over the basting. The roll line was basted as well. After pressing the final results are shown above as well.
