Christmas Card 90th Anniversary

For the school’s 90th anniversary they wanted to have a student design the Christmas card. The theme was the holidays but make it fashion. I was instantly inspired by shoes as we had just learned them in sketching 2. I used to figure skate, and did some research on 30s figure skates. I won the competition for my rough sketch, and after collaborating on the final design with the director Jen Leclerc, we came up with the pictured design (left).

I took a picture of my original sketch (with the corrections) and put it in illustrator. Then I locked that layer. On a new layer, I started tracing the design and coloring it in. My original sketch was on 11” x 17” paper, so I had to scale it down for the correct dimensions on the card. It worked marvelously on illustrator.
